Parked cars are visible in front of 121 NW 21st as Corvallis Fire Truck 151 is parked facing south on 21st street in Corvallis, Oregon on Wednesday, Sept 29. |
At 7:41 pm Engine 131, from Fire Station One, was initially dispatched to a report of a possible structure fire, Truck 151 was also dispatched with the Station One Lieutenant attached to it. Engine 118 arrived and did not see any indication of fire while Corvallis Police evacuated the structure. Truck 151 investigated the initial report of smoke coming from the laundry room in the basement on the Northside of the building. They reported smoke but no active fire. Engine 132 worked to investigate floors two through four, where they reported a smoke smell on floor two but no fire. Floors three and four were clear shortly afterward by 132. Engine 133 provided RIT to Truck 151, and Engine 125 provided standby medical until 7:51 when they were cleared by the commander to return to service.
The source of the smoke was found to be a clothes washer that was overstuffed so the drum was not agitating correctly. Engine 151 reported smells of burnt plastic or electrical fire around the washer, they then unplugged the washer from the outlet and pulled it away from the wall.
All units were clear of the scene by 8:20pm.
